Arhat, Ukrainian groove metal band, merges brutal heaviness with ancient mysticism. Drummer Ivan Semenchuk joined after early releases like Dead Life and Mantra, pushing the band toward more polished, conceptual soundscapes. This vision led to Secrets of Ancient Gods, an album inspired by Egyptian mythology, telling the story of a young man’s spiritual transformation into a priest.

Arhat’s music blends Oriental instruments like the Turkish ney and sitar with groove metal intensity, thanks to lead guitarist Anton’s experience in film scoring. “We wanted the instruments to enhance the atmosphere, not just be a gimmick.” Ivan explains. Their next album will shift focus to Sumerian mythology, promising a heavier, faster sound with more blast beats and cinematic elements.

Creating music during wartime is no small feat. Ivan, speaks to the mental toll but stresses the band’s commitment to representing Ukraine. All proceeds from their gigs support troops and displaced civilians. “Our place is here, helping however we can.” Ivan says.

Arhat’s members bring diverse influences from Nile and Obituary to Paradise Lost and Kreator, creating their unique metal blend. With three tracks completed for the new album, the band remains focused on quality and collaboration, ensuring every element serves the music’s atmosphere.

Arhat’s resilience is a testament to their craft and their country. As Ivan puts it, “Ukraine is a brave nation, and we show that through our music.” The band dreams of sharing their message on global stages, standing as a symbol of strength and unity in dark times.
