Finnish melodic death metal band Bloodred Hourglass will release their seventh album ”We Should Be Buried Like This.” In a focused conversation, vocalist Jaredi Koukonen outlines a record that leans harder and moves faster while keeping the band’s melodic core intact.

The songs took shape right after finishing the last touring run and summer festivals, continuing the band’s familiar two-year cycle. Some ideas were reshaped heavily from demo stage, others stayed close to the first demos. For the first time the group brought in a musical producer, Saku Moilanen (Deep Noise Studios) to align dense guitars and synth textures and help choose what truly served the album. A few tracks were deliberately left aside to keep the whole tight.

Compared to the previous ”How’s the Heart?” the experimental synth-driven side remains, but the emphasis shifts to direct, high-energy arrangements. The record also features the band’s first guest vocalists.

Recent single ”Chasing Shadows” represents the heavier end of the album. Its final form arrived during the recording phase rather than at demo stage. A live video from John Smith Rock Festival accompanies the track.

The aggression here isn’t cosmetic, it’s a by-product of songwriting choices. Straighter arcs, quicker tempos, tighter execution. Moilanen’s role stayed musical rather than decorative, finding space for keys without thinning the guitars.

Lyrically the focus moves away from heartbreak toward the present tense. News-fed end-times tones, the state of the world, and its tensions frame the imagery. The texts avoid simple pointing and leave room for the listener.

From here on the band’s outlook is calm and confident. Two decades in, they know what they are doing. The plan is simple, finish one record at a time as well as possible. If past patterns hold, a new chapter will be ready in roughly two years.
