In an interview with Imperiumi, Anna Brunner of Exit Eden, now a trio, shares insights about the upcoming album ‘Femmes Fatales,’ collaboration with Marko Hietala, and the origins of the band.
Exit Eden was initially conceived by a production company. Anna sang demos for the project, after which the now former member Amanda Somerville was invited to join. In fact, it was Amanda who suggested inviting Brunner, who had sung the demos, to the band, and at Somerville’s request, Marina La Torraca also joined. The quartet was later completed by the business-side choice of Clémentine Delauney. Exit Eden’s debut album ‘Rhapsodies in Black,’ released in 2017, consisted exclusively of cover songs.
The band’s second album, ‘Femmes Fatales,’ is set to be released on January 12th. It includes not only covers but also a number of the band’s own songs. According to Brunner, the work on their own songs began back in 2019, but changes in the record label and the pandemic disrupted their plans. The genre remains symphonic metal, and in the lyrics, Anna emphasizes a positive and empowering message. Marko Hietala also makes an appearance on the album and the new single. During the recording of the song ‘Run!,’ Brunner, at the producer’s request, imitated Hietala’s singing style. When everything fell into place, they invited him to sing on the track and appear in the music video. Anna also gives special praise to Marko’s acting skills.
