Rabbit Cult are a Finnish bunnymetal duo turning fluffy imagery into sharp-toothed Protest Pop Metal. With fast run of singles Cute AF, Bunny Anthem, Pink Rifle, Scandal, and the latestb Row Zero band is hinting at their coming debut full-length. In interview Salla-Marja Hätinen and Minna Marianne Heikkinen tell more.
Their story bends through a name change and slow, rebuilding. “I joined in 2021, and we’ve basically rebuilt everything since.” Marianne says. The duo shedding their old Saruru name and re-emerging as Rabbit Cult with a fresh visual world and a clearer idea of what bunny metal is. Songs reach back years, one idea starting in 2019, another written while Salla was in hospital after a car accident, but most of the real work has happened in the last couple of years as they wrote and demoed together. The pile is big now, from rough sketches to near-finished productions, and not every piece will end up on the record.
Row Zero ties heavy kantele riffs, cheeky beats and flower-dress rage into one chant, the lyric video dropping cameras into Hellsinki Metal Festival to show the duo’s ritual from the front row and backstage.
Their charge carries a myth. “I’ve written the whole history of Terra Feminarum and our bunny goddesses already.” Salla says. Visuals follow the same logic, pink and nature-heavy, shifting with Finnish seasons but staying inside one growing universe of ears, sigils and cult symbols.
The duo have mapped out a debut album they hope to release next year, built as a cross-section from early material to the newest, with at least one old favourite resurrected in the current bunny-metal shape. Their new era starts fluffy, sharp-toothed and unafraid.
