First To Die is a Ukrainian grindcore band that’s as raw as the chaos surrounding them. Formed during turbulent times, their sound is a mix of fury, adrenaline, and a drive to capture the emotional storm that is life during wartime.
Influenced by grindcore acts like Nails, Full of Hell, and Pig Destroyer, First To Die’s sound is built on pure adrenaline. Masha, the band’s guitarist, describes it simply as music meant to kick ass. Their live shows reflect this intensity, with the band performing even in dangerous conditions to give their audience a brief escape from the ongoing conflict.
Viktor sees the war’s impact on Ukraine’s music scene as an opportunity for the underground to grow, now that international acts are largely absent. The band is confident that this isolation will only strengthen their scene and its DIY ethos.
In addition to playing live, First To Die has released new music, including a split with fellow Ukrainian act VMRE . The result was their darkest material yet, exploring themes of vengeance.
Looking ahead, the band is focused on releasing their first full-length album and expanding beyond Ukraine. Viktor is blunt in his closing remarks—Ukraine’s war is Europe’s problem too. He calls on everyone to support Ukraine in the fight against the Russian invasion, reminding the world that this threat is closer than it seems.
